Federal Registry for Educational Excellence (Review)- Mathew Scamahorn

1. I can see myself using and teaching a variety of the mediums we discussed and used in class. There are advantages to Screen Casting (like I have embedded above via YouTube). I find all the tools easy to use. Some of the editing that is involved with WeVideo might be a little tedious, but all seems
accessible for me. I do like just shooting straight video, some simple editing and then putting it in a broadcast. I would not only like to use this for my classroom to teach content, but also to have students utilize the technologies in lessons.
2. I found some of the editing involved and piecing together problematic, but I might be just impatient. Otherwise, it all seemed pretty straight forward. When I forget how to do something I can look back at our class resources or find it via Google.
3. Some of my questions relate to privacy and confidentiality. I am pretty secure about putting myself out for the world to see, but how do I best protect and facilitate technological growth for my students? I like the visual collaborative nature of all this, but I don't want it to go the wrong way. I do think part of it is being aware and then consulting with professionals in tech, parents/families and the school itself is key. I just have some concerns for our less mature and more vulnerable students.

  1. Matthew this FREE resource was fascinating not only from the point of view of the amazing wealth of materials, but I was also interested, as I watched your screencast, to see how the site was designed and organized. This is definitely a resource I would like to explore in the future.

Finally just a note about your last comment regarding social media, access, and students. This is certainly something to keep in mind. Social media are designed for sharing and networking, however privacy, ethical issues, and maintaining confidentiality are things we always need to consider as educators regardless of the age of our students.
