I was frustrated by the lack of apps in Social Science that get beyond a more enjoyable game of trivial pursuit. MyCongress does just that, and you should probably all download it NOW in the interest of being an engaged citizen!
My lesson assumes familiarity with the app from previous coursework, and then requires groups of students to create their own databases of information in using Wiki tools applied to local government. The App provides three columns that contain news articles relevant to the representative, YouTube videos of the representative, and the Twitter feed of the representative. In the process of approximating a similar set of data the students would address many significant objectives in Virginia Standard Govt.6, but more importantly, they would have the tools necessary for approaching political issues in their Democracy.
