App Lesson

Reading and Checking Comprehension With the Help of Technology
Through this lesson kindergarten age students will practice using technology to read stories using a technological avenue, then engage in conversation about key concepts and ideas from the story. Teachers will check for comprehension using the quiz following the story on the MyOn App.

The TPACK is addressed by the content, methods of teaching, and technology included in the lesson. SAMR is addressed in the following ways:
  • Substitution- utilizing computer based technologies to complete the same task that was used before computers, just in a different way (pencil and paper).
  • Augmentation- using effective technology tools for common tasks, such as using the MyOn comprehension test online, as opposed to a quiz, or just answering a question verbally.
  • Modification- adding technology to enhance traditional happenings within the classroom. This is demonstrated in this lesson by having audio accessibility as opposed to just plain printed text.
  • Redefinition- The computers or tablets used in this lesson allows for new tasks that we wouldn't have necessarily thought about prior to the use of computers. As an extension to this lesson, allowing the author to come in via video conference to talk to students about key ideas as opposed to facilitation from teacher. Having the option to do that without cost of bringing presenter in is something that we wouldn't have necessarily had the ability to do before technological age.
