I avoided creating a Twitter account for a really long time. I didn't fully understand the meaning and usefulness of using it and thought it was a place to talk about celebrities and gossip. When this class started and we were asked to create one and I began exploring it I began to see the usefulness of having one and the dynamics behind using the web socially. Twitter and LinkedIn are great resources to socialize and engage with other people in your specific profession. I can also see the benefit in using it in class as a means of learning from others through the social web and gaining insight from people you may not necessarily meet face-to-face.
For this week's tech exploration, I decided to use Pinterest as my tool. Pinterest is also a social web tool that allows users to connect with others and "Pin" ideas and resources directly to individual profiles and "boards." As an educator, it's a great place to find ideas for classroom management, activities, lessons, articles, and really anything related to education. The search bar makes it easy to find pins from other people related to the topic of your choice. I created a private or hidden board as I use my personal profile on Pinterest and did not feel ready to create a professional one just yet. Being able to make private boards allows me professional and personal privacy from those who I may not necessarily want to find me on a social website. The images are screenshots from the private Tech Board I created with links to my professional pages on Twitter, Diigo, Blogger, and our Tech Blog.
